For those of you who need additional financing to complete your Internet projects or other expansions of your business, the Vermont Small Business and Lender Matchmaking Conference may help you get started.  Representatives from local lending sources will be at the conference, and there will also be some workshops to help you understand the small business financing process.

The conference is Monday, April 26th, from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Barre.  The conference is free, but registration is required by April 20th.  There is more information and registration at: http://economicdevelopment.vermont.gov/Home/VSBLendingConference/tabid/409/Default.aspx.

The Internet Biz 2010 program has about 100 NEK participants, which all have one thing in common: they want to grow and improve their small businesses.  As we look over the list of businesses, we see lots of potential for working together.  Some of the businesses are in the same field, such as farms and nurseries, and might be able to share bulk orders or equipment.  Other businesses offer differing services to the same customer set, such as wedding party services.  Some of you have skills or products that might be of use to the other businesses, such as the Wedding Dudes, who primarily do wedding pictures, but also produce professional video or still pictures for web sites or brochures.

Although the Internet Biz 2010 program has ended, this forum is still available for a while, so we invite you to add a description of your business, and services/materials that you could offer to or need from your fellow participants.  Remember that anyone can read this forum, but you need to log in to add an entry.  If you have forgotten your id and password or have any questions, you can still email us at info@e-NEK.com.

If people are finding your web site today via search engines, they are probably not typing in the long and confusing name, but rather linking to the search results.  Some frequent visitors may have bookmarked that old name, so it is important that you maintain the old name for at least a while.  If your new web site is being built in a new place with a new name, make sure you update your old site to link to the new one (or automatically re-direct visitors from the old site to the new), so residual search engine hits and old bookmarks don't get lost during the transition.  If you monitor the activity on your new site, one of pieces of information you will get is where your visitors linked from, so you will see when the old site is no longer being used.

You want to keep your old domain name & get the new one.  I don't know what server you are running, but there is no problem having multiple domain names for the same site.  We have 6 different names that all go to the same site.  It's simply a matter of configuring your web server correctly.  It should be easily done.

I'm going to be making a new website and I'm not happy with my old domain name as it's long and confusing to say to  people.  I'm  wanting to change it to an easier and more direct name.    I've had my website up and running since 2000 and don't want to lose all the rankings that I've achieved.   Wondering if anyone knows if it would be  better to keep the old cumbersome domain name and keep my rankings or is it a painless project for someone who knows what they're doing?
Thanks,
Miya

Mike and Nate,

I've received some inquiries regarding the cost of putting a video on a web site beyond a shoot-it-yourself option and putting it on youtube.  I realize that the cost for something more professional depends on many different factors but could you provide some ballpark figures as to what a video might cost just for planning purposes?  Thanks.  -Al-

Yes... we know who Barry is. He's a great musician and audio composer. Nate has shot many of his music concerts that Barry has performed and not performed in.

Not only do we and Barry do video procution but also right here in Saint Johnsbury there is Lemming Entertainment who we collaborate with often. They can do just about anything such as Commercial Video Production, Still Photography and Graphic Design. They are a team of proffesionals that all went to Lyndon State College for Television Production and have worked in the field for several years.

If anyone needs production work it's Lemming Entertainment. They are great guys that have considerable rates.
They can be reached at lemmingentertainment@gmail.com or at 802-274-0067 & 802-274-0532.

Along the lines of more options I'll mention that there is another high quality video/audio resource available in Newport Center, Barry Sahagian. Barry is a professional musician and composer. So in addition to his skills with HD videography he can provide custom royalty-free music to go along with the video stream.

Mike and Nate, you may want to team up with Barry at least for the audio help. He's an unusual resource in the Kingdom.

He can be reached by email using printmus@gmail.com or by phone at 802-334-2437

Note: I have no business relationship here, just trying to be helpful because I'm impressed with his work.

Now that final plans have been submitted, we would like to make everyone aware that we are not just The Wedding Dudes.
Mike and Nate have the experience to create any video production that you may see fit for your Website.
We can produce high quality videos that can include anything from a commercial, documentary, or a simple introduction.
Anything you can think of in terms of a promotional video we can do!
Video on your Website can sometimes help explain what you do better than pictures or text, as well as make your site more visually interesting.
